French, German Intelligence Seeking Access to Taliban Leadership

DID Press: French and German intelligence agencies have reportedly increased their presence in Afghanistan over the past year in an effort to recruit sources within the leadership ranks of the Taliban.

According to reports, the DGSE and BND — which maintain close cooperation — are seeking access to the Taliban’s core decision-making network led by Hibatullah Akhundzada.

Analysts say the heightened activity reflects Afghanistan’s strategic importance amid evolving regional dynamics and security concerns. Western governments, including France and Germany, are looking for accurate intelligence on internal power structures and decision-making processes within the Taliban government.
