US House Approves $900B Defense Bill; Israel & Ukraine Aid Spark Tensions

DID Press: US House of Representatives has approved a sweeping defense-policy bill authorizing roughly $900 billion in military programs — including significant assistance for Israel and Ukraine — marking one of the largest U.S. defense packages to date. The vote passed 312-112.

Under the bill:

U.S. military spending is allocated across operations and maintenance, personnel and healthcare, procurement, R&D, construction and nuclear programs.

Ukraine will receive about $400 million annually in security aid for 2026–2027 under the bill’s provisions.

The measure also includes support for Israel’s missile-defense systems and broader security commitments in the Middle East.

However, passage of the bill exposed deep internal divisions, especially among lawmakers opposed to certain amendments related to federal oversight, social and defense policies.

Critics warn that by prioritizing large-scale military spending and foreign aid, the bill may fuel geopolitical tensions — particularly over U.S. support for Israel and Ukraine — and provoke backlash from both domestic and international actors.
