Nearly 6,000 Afghan Migrants Return from Iran and Pakistan in a Day

DID Press: according to local authorities, Iran and Pakistan returned nearly 6,000 Afghan migrants to Afghanistan in a single day, amid an intensified crackdown on undocumented migration.

A report by the Taliban-run Refugee Commission indicates that the largest number of returnees crossed through the Torkham border.

Many of the returnees were families with children, entering Afghanistan through multiple border points, with some transferred onward to different provinces.

Local Taliban officials said limited financial assistance was distributed to a number of families upon arrival.

Humanitarian organizations have previously warned that a new wave of returns could place additional strain on Afghanistan’s fragile economy and overstretched public services.
