German Far-Right Politician Calls for Nationalist Alliance with US

DID Press: A senior figure from Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has called for a formal nationalist alliance between the United States and Germany, a move that has raised concerns across Europe amid the release of a new U.S. security strategy.

Markus Frohnmaier, foreign policy spokesperson for the AfD parliamentary group, made the remarks on Sunday at a high-profile event hosted by the New York Young Republican Club. Drawing inspiration from Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) ideology, Frohnmaier described an alliance between “American and German patriots” as “the path to saving the West.”

The event, which has in recent years become a recurring gathering point for international far-right and nationalist movements, was attended by approximately 20 AfD representatives at the state, federal, and European levels.

Frohnmaier’s comments coincided with the release of a new U.S. security strategy that openly praises so-called “patriotic” political movements in Europe and emphasizes resistance to the continent’s current political direction. The timing has prompted unease among European political and security circles, with critics warning that such rhetoric could deepen transatlantic ideological polarization and embolden extremist networks.

Observers note that the AfD’s outreach to U.S. nationalist groups reflects a broader effort by far-right parties to internationalize their agendas and legitimize their platforms through alignment with influential political currents abroad.
