UN Approves Draft Resolution on Establishment of Independent Palestinian State
DID Press: UN General Assembly, by an overwhelming majority, has adopted a draft resolution affirming the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, including the right to establish an independent Palestinian state.

The resolution was approved with 164 votes in favor, while only eight countries—Israel, the United States, Micronesia, Argentina, Paraguay, Papua New Guinea, Palau, and Nauru—voted against it.
The resolution was introduced and adopted under the agenda item “The Right of to Self-Determination” and reaffirms the United Nations’ long-standing position on recognizing the Palestinian people’s right to freely determine their political status and pursue their economic, social, and cultural development.
The text recalls a series of previous UN resolutions and international legal instruments, including the UN Charter and international human rights covenants, emphasizing that the right to self-determination is one of the fundamental principles of international law.
The vote took place at a time when the Palestinian issue remains a central item on the UN agenda, and diplomatic efforts continue to achieve a sustainable political solution.
