Poland Arrests Suspected ISIS Member, Foils Christmas Market Attack Plot

DID Press: Polish security forces have arrested a suspected ISIS member planning attacks on Christmas markets and New Year events.

According to PAP news agency, the suspect was detained on Tuesday, December 16, by agents of Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW). Authorities said the individual was a student at the Catholic University in Lublin.

Searches of locations linked to the suspect uncovered digital data and symbols that may serve as evidence in the ongoing case.

A Polish court has ordered the suspect to remain in pretrial detention for three months while ABW continues its investigation.

A spokesperson for the agency said the suspect’s intent was to spread public fear and support ISIS, noting that further details of the planned attacks may emerge as investigations continue.
