Iran Formally Invites Taliban FM to Tehran

DID Press: Iran has formally invited Taliban’s acting foreign minister to visit Tehran, signaling continued engagement between the two sides despite Afghanistan’s unresolved international status.

According to the report, Amir Khan Muttaqi received the official invitation during a meeting with a representative of Iran’s foreign minister. Mohammad Reza Bahrami, head of the Asia Department at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, conveyed Tehran’s invitation and stressed the importance of relations with Kabul, as well as Afghanistan’s role in strengthening regional cooperation.

Bahrami also called for Afghanistan’s active participation in regional projects and initiatives.

In response, Muttaqi said Afghanistan had moved beyond its difficult past and should no longer be viewed as a “problem.” He added that Kabul’s foreign policy is focused on expanding active relations and constructive cooperation with countries in the region.

Both sides agreed to further expand bilateral engagement and enhance regional cooperation.
