DID Press: China on Thursday strongly condemned US plan to sell advanced weapons to Taiwan, saying the move is futile, dangerous and undermines regional stability.
A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry said the purchase of such weapons will neither alter what Beijing described as the “inevitable failure of Taiwan independence,” nor bring security to the island. Instead, the spokesperson said, it will waste taxpayers’ money, accusing Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities of misusing public funds.
The spokesperson warned that US military support for Taiwan’s “separatist agenda” will have counterproductive results, stressing that Washington’s attempt to use Taiwan as a tool to contain China is destined to fail.
China, the spokesperson added, will resolutely defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity and considers any external interference in Taiwan issue unacceptable.
The remarks follow Washington’s recent approval of a multibillion-dollar arms sales package to Taiwan.
