Pakistan Summons Taliban Envoy after Deadly North Waziristan Attack

DID Press: Pakistan has summoned a senior representative of the Taliban-run Afghan embassy following militant attacks on a Pakistani military camp in North Waziristan that killed at least 4 soldiers.

In a statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said it called in the deputy head of Afghanistan’s diplomatic mission and delivered a strongly demarche in response to the attack.

Islamabad accused the Taliban authorities of providing safe havens to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, alleging that the group uses Afghanistan territory to plan and carry out terrorist attacks inside Pakistan—an act the government said violates Taliban commitments and international norms.

The Pakistani military said intelligence evidence indicates the attack was planned and directed by elements based in Afghanistan.

Condemning the assault in the strongest terms, Islamabad urged the Taliban government to immediately dismantle militant networks and prevent Afghanistan soil from being used against neighboring countries. Pakistan also warned that it reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and respond to cross-border threats.
