DID Press: French government announced a new bill that will prohibit children and teenagers under 15 from using social media, aiming to regulate digital platforms and better protect young users.

Anne-Laure Ennanf, France’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Affairs, said the bill is concise and aligned with European Union law, particularly the Digital Services Act (DSA), allowing age verification without conflicting with EU regulations.
Previous attempts to implement similar measures were blocked due to legal incompatibilities. For example, a 2023 law setting the minimum age for digital activity at 15 could not be enforced.
French authorities hope the new legislation will provide an effective framework to restrict children’s access to social media and serve as a model for digital regulation across Europe.
