Pakistani Senator Warns of Shrinking Space for Enlightened in Afghanistan
DID Press: Pakistani Senator Jan Mohammad Buledi, parliamentary leader of the National Party (NP) in Pakistan’s Senate, has expressed concern over the situation of Afghan families in Pakistan, saying since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, living a dignified life has become extremely difficult for enlightened and progressive individuals.

He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of affected Afghan families led by Noor Marjan, Director of the Federal Tribal Areas (FFTA). The delegation presented a report on the challenges faced by families who have been returned to Afghanistan by Pakistani authorities and called for special attention to be given to Afghan women and children.
Senator Beludi criticized the treatment of Afghan migrants by Pakistani authorities, noting that many Afghans—particularly those active in the media, education, and academic sectors—were forced to leave Afghanistan due to pressure from the Taliban. He emphasized that many of them entered Pakistan legally on visas but are now facing problems such as demands for bribes and attempts at forced deportation.
He urged the Pakistani government to adopt a humane approach in line with international laws to protect Afghan migrants, put an end to police harassment, and ensure special consideration for the education of Afghan children.
