Moscow: Strategic Ties with Iran Entered into New Phase
DID Press: Russia’s Foreign Ministry said the signing of a comprehensive strategic agreement with Iran marks the beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations, elevating cooperation between the two countries to a higher level.

Russia said that in 2025 it has upgraded its relations with a number of allies and partners, including Iran and North Korea. The Foreign Ministry noted this shift also includes strengthening the shared defense framework with Belarus. Under the two countries’ security guarantees treaty, mutual commitments are envisaged to defend sovereignty, territorial integrity and the borders of the Union State, using all available capabilities.
Moscow also said its relations with North Korea have taken on a new quality, adding that Pyongyang, under a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty, played an effective role in the liberation of the Kursk region from Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized the implementation of the comprehensive agreement with Iran represents a new chapter in political, economic and security cooperation between the two countries.
Russia’s move underscores its efforts to expand a network of strategic allies in the region and to establish alternative political and security blocs. The upgrading of ties with Iran and North Korea is seen as strengthening Moscow’s international position and potentially reducing Western influence by shifting the balance of power in the Middle East and Eastern Europe in Russia’s favor.
