Border Closure Linked to Sharp Fall in Pakistan Terror Attacks

DID Press: Official security reports indicate that Pakistan has recorded a significant decline in terrorist attacks and related casualties following the closure of its shared border with Afghanistan.

According to data released by Pakistan’s Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the number of attacks showed a downward trend in the final months of 2025. The report notes that incidents in December fell by 17 percent, while November saw a 9-percent decline, coinciding with Islamabad’s decision to shut the Afghan border beginning 11 October.

Casualties among civilians and security personnel also decreased during the last quarter of the year, which security officials say reflects the impact of newly introduced border-control measures.

However, CRSS stresses that despite the late-year decline, 2025 was still Pakistan’s deadliest year in a decade, driven by a 34-percent increase in violence compared with the previous year.

Security analysts warn that sustaining recent gains will require long-term strategies and stronger regional cooperation.
