Ilhan Omar Accuses Trump of Racism and Islamophobia

DID Press: US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar accused US President Donald Trump of racism, xenophobia and Islamophobia, saying his attacks on Black and Muslim immigrant communities — particularly Somali Americans in Minnesota — are deliberate and calculated.

Omar, a Democratic member of Congress, argued that Trump’s focus on these communities is not accidental but reflects a long record of discriminatory and exclusionary rhetoric. She said the issue has both racial and religious dimensions and highlights what she described as a hostile posture toward Black Muslim immigrants.

Rejecting claims that these communities are “outsiders,” Omar stressed that many Somali and Muslim residents of Minnesota are U.S. citizens who chose the state as their home because of its culture and people. Political pressure or criticism, she added, will not change that reality.

Omar concluded that Trump’s statements and policies will neither force these communities to leave the country nor weaken their place in American society. “We are citizens of this country,” she said. “And regardless of what the president says, we are here to stay.”
