Russia Demands US Release Maduro and His Wife

DID Press: Russia called on US to release Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, confirming that both are currently in U.S. custody. The Russian Foreign Ministry said Washington should reconsider its position and free what it described as “the legitimate president of a sovereign country” along with his spouse.

Moscow also underscored the need to “create conditions for resolving any existing disagreements between the United States and Venezuela through dialogue,” emphasizing that political channels — not coercive measures — should guide the process.

The statement followed remarks on January 3 from Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto, who said the United States had struck both civilian and military targets in Caracas. He denounced the operation as a “military aggression” and announced a state of emergency in the country.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces carried out large-scale airstrikes against Venezuela and stated that Maduro and his wife had been detained and taken out of the country.
