Taliban Building 8 New Cold Storage Facilities Across Afghanistan
DID Press: Taliban-run Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock says construction is under way on eight new cold storage facilities across six regions of Afghanistan, a program expected to raise the country’s standardized storage capacity to 5,000 tons once completed.

According to the ministry, the project is progressing on schedule, and the new facilities will allow safe, temperature-controlled storage of agricultural products during critical periods, reducing waste and protecting crop quality.
Ministry spokesman Mawlawi Sher Mohammad Hatami said the initiative is designed to cut post-harvest losses and maintain standards in the supply chain. Officials added that, in parallel with these projects, China plans to construct three additional cold storage units in coordination with the ministry in Kabul and Balkh provinces, each with a capacity of 1,500 metric tons.
Agriculture authorities believe the expansion of storage infrastructure will strengthen the sector, support farmers, and improve national crop management and market stability.
