Recycling Plants in Balkh Boost Local Industry, Cut Imports

DID Press: Recycling factories in Balkh province are playing a key role in reducing imports, managing waste, and protecting the environment.

Local officials report that approximately 30 recycling facilities are currently operational in the province, converting urban and industrial waste into reusable materials. These include plastic bottles, paper, metals, and other discarded items, which are processed into products such as synthetic cotton, paper, cardboard, slippers, and boots—meeting a significant portion of the Northern Zone’s market demand.

Authorities from Balkh’s Labor and Social Affairs Department and the Chamber of Industries and Mines note that some factories have been established with significant investment, providing employment opportunities for hundreds of residents. The products from these facilities are distributed not only within Balkh but also to other provinces across the country.

Officials believe that expanding the recycling sector can play a vital role in reducing imports, supporting domestic production, protecting the environment, and improving the economic conditions of local communities.
