Poll: US Action against Venezuela Rings Alarm for Global Order

DID Press: A recent poll conducted by DID press agency indicates that a large majority of respondents view U.S. intervention in Venezuela and the abduction of its president as a move that can further undermine international law and exacerbate global instability. This assessment reflects widespread concerns about a return to an era of unilateral interventions and intensifying geopolitical rivalries.

Following the U.S. military action in Venezuela and the capture of the country’s president, global political and media landscape has been flooded with reactions and analyses.

In this context, DID press agency conducted a poll to gauge public opinion on the potential implications of this action for the global order and the international system.

According to the poll results, 61 percent of participants believe the move will “further weaken international law and increase global instability.” This significant figure indicates that a majority of the public views U.S. action not as a limited event but as a structural threat to international norms and rules that have been developed over decades to prevent unilateral interventions and maintain global stability.

In second place, 15 percent of respondents consider the event a sign of a “return to classical interventionist policies,” an era when major powers directly interfered in domestic affairs of countries without regard for international institutions.

This perspective highlights concerns about a resurgence of Cold War–era patterns of behavior.

Additionally, 11 percent of participants view the main consequence of this action as “an increase in rifts among major powers and intensified geopolitical competition.” From this viewpoint, the U.S. move can lead to new alignments, heightened tensions among power blocs, and the emergence of fresh regional crises.

In contrast, only 13 percent of respondents believe the event will have “limited and short-term effects” and will not bring structural changes to the global order. This group views the U.S. action more as a tactical event rather than a turning point in international affairs.

Analysis of the poll results suggests that public sentiment about the future of the global order has grown more pessimistic. The majority of respondents perceive the U.S. action as a sign of weakening international institutions, erosion of legal norms, and increased unilateralism—trends that can have far-reaching consequences for security, economics, and global stability.

Amid ongoing crises, ranging from regional wars to growing competition among major powers, this poll reflects public concern over the future of the international order and the possibility of entering a more turbulent and unpredictable period.
