Oman’s Grand Mufti Warns Human Values at Risk in Venezuela
DID Press: Oman’s Grand Mufti, Ahmad bin Hamad Al Khalili, has issued a stark warning that human values in Venezuela are under threat, criticizing the international community’s silence over recent events in the country as a return to a “law of the jungle.”

Speaking out against what he described as the alarming inaction of global organizations and human rights bodies, Al Khalili emphasized that the lack of response signals a decline in respect for human rights and humanitarian principles.
In a social media post, he wrote: “The situation in Venezuela raises the question: has the world returned to a ‘law of the jungle,’ where the weak are left exposed to injustice without protection or recourse?”
The Mufti also called the stance of international institutions, including the United Nations and the Security Council, “surprising,” noting their failure to take meaningful action in response to developments in Venezuela.
His remarks follow U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, an operation that has sparked widespread protests domestically and drawn international reactions from the European Union, China, Russia, Brazil, and even the Taliban.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has described the U.S. action as “setting a dangerous precedent,” and the Security Council is expected to hold a special session to examine the situation.
Al Khalili concluded by stressing that the protection of human values and human rights requires urgent international intervention to prevent similar crises in the future.
