Tracking Path to Trillion-Dollar Club: Global GDP Milestones
DID Press: US was the first country to surpass a gross domestic product (GDP) of $1 trillion in 1969, earning recognition as the founder of the “Trillion-Dollar Club.” Japan followed in 1978, and Germany reached this milestone in 1986.

France, Italy, and the United Kingdom subsequently joined the group in later years. China achieved a $1 trillion GDP in 1998, 29 years after the U.S., accelerating its trajectory toward global economic prominence.
India joined the club in 2007, exactly 29 years after Japan, and projections indicate that it may soon surpass Japan’s economy.
Within the region, only Saudi Arabia in 2022 and Turkey in 2023 have managed to reach the $1 trillion GDP threshold, securing their positions among the world’s largest economies.
