Taliban Reports Islamic Financing Support and Large-Scale Wheat Reserves

DID Press: Taliban administration says it has expanded Islamic financial support to farmers and livestock owners while building up state wheat reserves across Afghanistan.

Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Taliban government, said nearly 2 billion afghanis in “Islamic facilities” were provided last year to farmers, herders, and the private sector. The support was issued through murabaha and mudaraba services by the Agriculture Development Fund to strengthen agriculture and livestock production.

According to Fitrat, 2,503 demonstration plots of wheat, rice and maize were established across 34 provinces during the same period.

He added that in the current solar year, authorities purchased 21,400 tons of wheat worth 500 million afghanis from Balkh, Herat, Takhar, Kunduz and Baghlan provinces storing the grain in state silos.
