DID Press: Swedish government has issued an unprecedented warning to its citizens, distributing a 32-page guide to over five million households, urging preparedness for crisis scenarios and potential war. The move reflects growing security concerns in Europe following the Ukraine conflict and Sweden’s NATO membership.

The brochure, titled “In Case of Crisis or War”, was sent starting November 2025 and provides practical guidance on emergencies including warfare, cyberattacks, terrorism, and misinformation. Recommendations range from controlling severe bleeding and using public radio for reliable updates to managing radiation exposure after a nuclear incident. Images of citizens in civil defense shelters underscore that no society, including Sweden in 2026, is immune from conflict.
Swedish officials, including the Minister of Civil Defense, described the guide as essential to strengthening societal resilience. Under Swedish law, all citizens aged 16 to 70 are obliged to participate in “total defense,” a Cold War-era concept revived amid renewed tensions with Russia. Citizens are advised to stock at least one week’s supply of food, water, and essential items. International media have described this step as a clear sign of Europe returning to a period of heightened security alert.
