FAO Warns of Dry, Hot Winter Threatening Afghanistan’s Agriculture
DID Press: UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has forecast a drier and warmer-than-average winter for Afghanistan in 2025–2026, raising concerns about water shortages and agricultural impacts.

According to the FAO report, precipitation from December 2025 through February 2026 is expected to be significantly below normal, exacerbating soil moisture deficits across the country. While stronger weather systems in January may temporarily boost rainfall, the organization warns such events are unlikely to offset the overall dry conditions.
FAO emphasized that the ongoing water scarcity could negatively affect farming, livelihoods, and food security in Afghanistan. The report calls for immediate action to mitigate the impacts of water shortages and climate-related challenges.
