UN Political Chief in Kabul for Talks with Taliban Authorities

DID Press: Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, arrived in Kabul on Saturday for consultations with Taliban officials, said sources.

Officials at Afghanistan’s Taliban-run Foreign Ministry confirmed the visit, saying DiCarlo has traveled to the country for meetings and discussions with members of the caretaker government.

While the precise purpose of the trip has not been officially announced, DiCarlo oversees UN-led Doha process on Afghanistan. Her visit is expected to include talks on the country’s political situation, recent developments, and potential areas of cooperation between the UN and the Taliban authorities.
