UK PM Starmer Says Trump Must Apologize Over NATO Remarks

DID Press: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments regarding NATO’s role in Afghanistan war, calling them insulting to Washington’s allies and demanding an official apology.

Starmer highlighted the sacrifice of hundreds of British soldiers who served alongside other NATO forces on the frontlines, stressing that claims of European troop withdrawal or minimal involvement are inconsistent with battlefield realities.

Trump had previously told Fox News that the U.S. “never needed NATO” and suggested that European and British forces bore less responsibility during coalition operations in Afghanistan. Starmer described these remarks as “offensive and concerning,” warning that they can undermine Atlantic alliance cohesion.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that NATO remains a cornerstone of collective Western security and emphasized that disregarding the contributions and sacrifices of its members could have serious political and security consequences.
