Taliban Warns Global Threat from Overseas Drug Production

DID Press: Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government warned UN that drug cultivation outside Afghanistan poses a significant threat to global security.

Amir Khan Muttaqi, Taliban Foreign Minister, met with Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, to raise concerns over international drug production centers.

Muttaqi emphasized that unless serious measures are taken to curb narcotics production regionally and beyond Afghanistan’s borders, not only Afghanistan but the entire region and the world could face renewed negative consequences.

He urged the international community to cooperate in addressing the spread of drugs and prevent the expansion of associated threats.

The Taliban have previously stated that Afghanistan alone cannot combat narcotics production and highlighted the critical role of neighboring countries and international organizations in this effort.
