Ex-CIA Chief: No Basis for US-Taliban Friendship

DID Press: Former CIA Director David Petraeus sharply criticized the Taliban, asserting that their ideology is fundamentally at odds with American values, making any friendly relations impossible.

In an interview with Al Arabiya, Petraeus highlighted that the Taliban are responsible for the deaths of thousands of U.S. personnel, coalition forces, and Afghan security members. He also pointed to the group’s severe restrictions on women and widespread human rights abuses as additional reasons why reconciliation with the Taliban is incompatible with U.S. principles.

Petraeus further condemned the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, arguing that continued American military presence was both feasible and fully supported by Washington’s allies.
