Pakistani Clerics Reject Taliban Penal Code as Un-Islamic
DID Press: Pakistan’s Council of Religious Scholars issued a strong statement denouncing the Taliban’s newly drafted penal code, declaring it contrary to the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet.

The council warned that the code not only fails to adhere to Islamic teachings but also undermines human dignity. Of particular concern is the classification of society into “free” and “enslaved” categories under the guise of Sharia, which the scholars say has no religious basis.
According to the statement, enforcing such laws risks a return to pre-Islamic customs explicitly rejected by Islam. The clerics urged the Taliban to clarify their stance internationally and refrain from imposing regulations that misrepresent Islamic principles.
