UK Warns: Peace in Afghanistan Impossible Without Respect for All Rights
DID Press: Richard Lindsay, UK’s representative to Afghanistan, warned that the new judicial laws under the Taliban government, which discriminate against women, minorities, and dissenting citizens, threaten peace and justice in the country.

The British official emphasized that for a just and peaceful Afghanistan to be established, respect for the rights of all citizens is essential.
He stated, “The new Taliban criminal law for the courts contradicts these principles, creating systemic discrimination against women, ethnic minorities, and those who defy mandatory social norms.”
Recently, Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader, approved this “criminal law for courts,” making it mandatory across the country.
In response to the criticism, the Taliban Ministry of Justice stated that opposition to the law is considered a religious crime, and all regulations are based on Hanafi jurisprudence, the Quran, and the Prophet’s Sunnah.
International experts and human rights organizations have expressed concerns over the Taliban’s move, calling it a setback for human rights in Afghanistan.
