Afghanistan Seeks Active Participation in SCO
DID Press: Gul Hassan, the Taliban ambassador to Russia, announced that Kabul plans to resume its active participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a move that, according to him, is being pursued with the support of Moscow, Beijing, and the backing of most SCO member states.

In an interview with Russia’s TASS news agency, Hassan stated that Afghanistan currently holds the status of an “observer” in the SCO, and Kabul believes that it is appropriate to resume its activities within the framework of the organization.
When asked whether Afghanistan sees the possibility of resuming cooperation with the SCO, Hassan replied: “Yes, Afghanistan is an observer country in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and based on this status, we should participate in the organization’s meetings.”
He further added that, through the efforts of Moscow and Beijing, most member states of the organization have come to the conclusion that reviving Afghanistan’s active participation in the SCO’s activities is both feasible and logical.
He concluded by expressing hope that Afghanistan will participate in the upcoming meetings of the SCO.
