EU Warns of Migrant Return and Worsening Water Crisis in Afghanistan

DID Press: European Union raised concerns over the mass return of Afghan migrants and a worsening water and climate crisis that is approaching emergency levels in the country.

Gilles Bertrand, the EU Special Representative for Afghanistan, held a high-level meeting with the Afghan Women Leaders Forum, describing the session as “highly valuable and constructive.” The forum consists of Afghan experts providing policy advice at a strategic level.

During the discussions, participants focused on women’s role in economic development, the challenges and opportunities posed by the return of large numbers of migrants, and the growing water and climate crisis. Bertrand emphasized that these issues are escalating toward a critical situation, underscoring the urgency of coordinated policy action.
