Afghan Migrants in Iran Celebrate Half of Sha’ban: Display of Unity and Religious Identity

DID Press: On the occasion of the birthday of Imam Mahdi (AS), Afghan migrants residing in Iran held vibrant celebrations across multiple cities, marking this auspicious occasion with grand ceremonies and gatherings.

The Half of Sha’ban Festival, celebrating the birth of Imam Mahdi (AS), was attended by families, youth, and children of Afghan migrants at mosques, Hussainiyas, and local community centers. The events were filled with spiritual energy, featuring mouled recitations, praise songs, prayers, religious speeches focusing on the culture of hope and waiting for the Imam, as well as traditional hymns.

Speakers at these gatherings emphasized the values of hope, patience, and justice-seeking in the teachings of Imam Mahdi. In the event’s surroundings, hospitality booths and refreshment stations were set up, where participants were offered sweet drinks, sweets, cakes, food, and snacks. Many families participated in these voluntary offerings, praying for the well-being and ease of their affairs.

The presence of children and teenagers, the decorations, and active participation of youth in organizing the events demonstrated social solidarity and the preservation of religious and cultural identity within the migrant community.

According to the organizers, the primary aim of these celebrations is to pass on religious values to the new generation, fostering hope, solidarity, and stronger social bonds among Afghan migrants in Iran.

For this community, the Half of Sha’ban Festival is more than a religious observance; it is a celebration of tradition and a display of devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt (AS). This annual event has grown in spirit and significance, symbolizing cultural waiting and peaceful coexistence.
