31 Killed, 169 Injured in Explosion at Shiite Mosque in Islamabad

DID Press: A terrorist explosion at the Hazrat Khadija al-Kubra Shiite mosque in Islamabad’s Tarlai area has left at least 31 people dead and 169 injured. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack and ordered an immediate investigation, the identification of those responsible, and direct oversight of medical care for the wounded.

The blast occurred around midday on Friday at the Hazrat Khadija al-Kubra mosque and Hussainiya while worshippers were present, making it one of the deadliest recent attacks in the Pakistani capital. According to official sources, a significant number of the injured are in critical condition, and the death toll may rise.

Condemning the attack and expressing condolences to the victims’ families, the prime minister instructed the interior minister to ensure the perpetrators are identified, prosecuted, and dealt with decisively. The health minister was also directed to personally supervise the treatment of the injured.

According to Al Jazeera, citing Islamabad police, the death toll has reached 31, with 169 people wounded. Police say a wide-ranging investigation is underway, the blast site has been sealed off, and security measures around mosques and religious centers in Islamabad have been tightened. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
