Finkelstein: War on Iran Would Be Costly, Futile, and Unjustified for US

DID Press: Norman Finkelstein, a Jewish-American scholar, has warned that any U.S. military action against Iran would not only fail to advance Washington’s strategic interests but would also impose heavy costs and serious damage on the US itself.

He said repeated U.S. threats and warnings form part of the Western foreign policy propaganda apparatus, noting no credible evidence has been presented to demonstrate that Iran poses a real or aggressive military threat.

Finkelstein criticized what he described as the double standards of the US and its allies—particularly Israel—regarding nuclear programs, arguing that while Iran is targeted, the nuclear activities of other countries are largely ignored.

In his assessment, direct military intervention against Iran would be irrational, as major powers typically prioritize their own interests, and launching a new war does not align with such strategic calculations.
