UN Warns: 4.2M People in Afghanistan Need Urgent Aid

DID Press: UN announced that the combined impact of natural disasters and economic challenges has left millions in Afghanistan in need of immediate humanitarian support.

According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 4.2 million people in Afghanistan are projected to require shelter this year.

The increase in needs is attributed to a mix of natural disasters, economic difficulties, the return of refugees, and the ongoing social and geopolitical pressures.

OCHA’s report notes that the UN plans to provide emergency shelter and food supplies to 881,000 people, but the implementation of this program requires over $160 million in funding.

The UN office also emphasized that Afghanistan is facing a multi-faceted crisis, exacerbated by a combination of natural disasters, geopolitical pressures, economic hardships, and social inequalities, highlighting the urgent need for international support.
