2,500 Fighters Moved From Syria to Afghanistan, Claims Pakistan
DID Press: Pakistan’s military spokesperson has claimed that, based on what he described as “credible intelligence,” around 2,500 armed fighters have been transferred from Syria to Afghanistan, adding that none of them are Pakistani nationals. Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry accused Afghanistan’s Taliban-led interim government of acting as a “supporter and host of all terrorist groups active in Afghanistan,” alleging that a significant share of security threats facing Pakistan originates from Afghan territory.

In response, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid rejected the allegations as “baseless, irresponsible and provocative,” urging Pakistani officials to focus on their own internal challenges instead of making accusations against Afghanistan.
Describing Pakistan’s security situation, General Sharif labeled 2025 a “turning point in the fight against terrorism,” saying Pakistani forces conducted 75,175 intelligence-based operations during the year—an average of more than 200 operations per day.
He further claimed that Afghan nationals were involved in some of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Pakistan in 2025, asserting that Afghanistan has effectively become a “launchpad for terrorist operations” against Pakistan.
In another part of his remarks, the military spokesperson sharply criticized the political environment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, arguing that 71 percent of terrorist attacks occurred there due to what he called a “conducive environment for extremism” and a “nexus between politics and terrorism”—comments widely seen as targeting the provincial government led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
