DID Press: US President Donald Trump threatened to prevent the opening of a new bridge linking Canada and the United States across Detroit River, connecting Canada’s Ontario province with the US state of Michigan.

The bridge, known as the Gordie Howe International Bridge, is expected to open to vehicle traffic soon, pending final testing and official approvals.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump criticized Canada’s trade policies and insisted that the US must hold a 50 percent ownership stake in the bridge. He said the bridge would not be allowed to open unless Canada treat the US with what he described as “fairness and due respect.”
Trump added that Washington must receive full compensation for the assistance and concessions it has provided to Canada, warning that otherwise he would block the completion of the project.
According to project details, the Canadian government has financed the construction of the bridge, while ownership is to be shared between Canada and the US state of Michigan.
Although Trump has not specified how he would prevent the bridge from opening, he said he plans to launch immediate talks with Canadian officials on the issue.
