$5m Wholesale Market to Boost Western Afghanistan’s agricultural Trade
DID Press: Construction begun on Four Seasons International Wholesale market in Herat, west of Afghanistan, with an investment exceeding $5 million and in the presence of local officials, agricultural authorities, traders, and farmers.

Local authorities said the market is being built on 65 jeribs of land and designed in four phases, with completion and commissioning scheduled within six months.
According to the approved plan, the complex will comprise 600 retail units, a central mosque, and a large cold-storage facility covering 25 jeribs, with a storage capacity of up to 20,000 tones of agricultural products.
The construction of a standards-compliant cold-storage facility has been identified as a core component of the project, expected to significantly reduce post-harvest losses of fruit and vegetables and contribute to market stabilization.
Officials said the launch of the Four Seasons Wholesale Market will streamline agricultural trade, enable farmers to gain more direct access to larger markets, and improve price discovery.
They added that the project will support producers, strengthen supply chains, and generate new employment opportunities in Herat and surrounding districts.
