Uzbek Delegation in Afghanistan to Expand Bilateral Trade Ties

DID Press: Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Taliban administration met with the Governor of Uzbekistan’s Syrdarya Region led by Erkinjon Turdimov and his accompanying delegation to discuss expanding trade relations, increasing exports, and addressing customs-related challenges.

During the meeting, Nooruddin Azizi welcomed the visit of Erkinjon Turdimov, Governor of Syrdarya, describing relations between the two sides as friendly and emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation between the private sectors and boost bilateral trade.

Turdimov provided information on the production and industrial capacities of the Syrdarya region and called for the import of fresh Afghan fruits—particularly pomegranates—as well as cottonseed. He also underscored the importance of expanding trade exchanges between the two sides.

The Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce outlined the regional trade environment and discussed the import of cement, chemical fertilizers, medicines, and other essential goods. He invited Uzbek traders to visit Afghanistan to further expand cooperation. Referring to the high quality and significant cotton yield in Afghanistan this year, he described its export to Uzbekistan as a suitable opportunity.

The two sides also exchanged views on holding an international trade forum in the Syrdarya region, facilitating customs procedures, and creating greater ease in trade and transit.

Notably, 30 traders from Syrdarya are part of the Uzbek delegation visiting Afghanistan.
