Pakistan Summons Taliban Envoy Over Deadly Bajaur Attack

DID Press: Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry summoned the deputy head of the Taliban mission in Islamabad to lodge a formal demarche following a deadly attack in Bajaur that killed 11 Pakistani soldiers.

According to Pakistani media, Islamabad condemned the attack and attributed it to the group it refers to as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” a label used by the Pakistani state for the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andarabi said Pakistan conveyed its deep concern over the activities of TTP, alleging that the group’s leadership is based in Afghanistan and operates from there with impunity. He added that Islamabad has received repeated assurances from the Afghan side but has yet to see “concrete and verifiable action.”

The spokesperson stressed that Pakistan demanded immediate, specific, and verifiable measures by the Taliban authorities against all militant groups operating from Afghan territory, including their leadership. The Pakistani side also asserted it reserves the right to respond and to target TTP elements and their affiliates “wherever they may be” to safeguard national security, citizens, and territorial integrity.
