UN Chief Warns Against AI Monopoly by Billionaires at Global Summit in India

DID Press: World political leaders and tech experts gathered in New Delhi, India’s capital, for the global AI summit to shape the future of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence.

Antonio Guterres warned that the future of AI should not be dictated by “the interests of a few billionaires” and called for equal and open access for all nations.

Speaking on Thursday, 19 February 2026, Guterres emphasized that AI development must serve the public good and urged major tech companies to support a $3 billion global fund to ensure universal access. He also highlighted potential AI risks and the widening digital divide between countries.

Other leaders, including Emmanuel Macron and Narendra Modi, addressed the summit, stressing the need for safe, transparent, and inclusive AI frameworks.

This meeting marks the fourth international AI summit since 2023, with prior sessions held in various countries. Key topics included AI’s impact on employment, child safety online, and effective regulatory measures.

Notably, Bill Gates withdrew from the event due to past controversies.

The New Delhi summit comes amid massive global investments in AI, alongside growing concerns over its ethical, security, and economic implications, drawing heightened attention from governments and international organizations.
