Taliban Rejects Gaza Peace Council as Unrepresentative of Palestinians
DID Press: Taliban’s deputy foreign ministry official criticized the newly formed Gaza Peace Council, saying it lacks popular legitimacy and cannot offer a fair solution to the Palestinian crisis.

Wardak wrote on social media that the council does not represent the genuine will of the people of Gaza or Palestine. He added that such bodies undermine the role of independent international institutions and risk imposing predetermined political and security structures on Gaza’s population.
The remarks come amid ongoing conflict and a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where international efforts to broker a ceasefire have stalled.
The council recently convened in Washington, D.C. at the United States Institute of Peace, with representatives from roughly 24 countries. Former U.S. President Donald Trump chairs the council’s board. Initially focused on Gaza’s reconstruction after Israeli military attacks, the council’s mandate now extends to addressing conflicts globally.
The Taliban emphasized that any political solution for Gaza must be based on the local population’s will, warning that initiatives without direct Palestinian participation lack legitimacy and could complicate regional political and security dynamics.
