Bennett to Report on Afghan Women’s Health to UN

DID Press: Richard Bennett, UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, announced that he will present his latest report on the “right to health of Afghan women and girls” to the UN Human Rights Council on February 26 during its sixty-first session in Geneva.

Bennett shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the report will focus on Afghan women’s and girls’ access to healthcare services and recent human rights developments in the country.

Prevented by the Taliban government from entering Afghanistan, Bennett recently traveled to Pakistan to engage with officials and conduct field consultations on the human rights situation in Afghanistan.

Concurrently, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) emphasized on International Day of Social Justice that equal access to essential services, including education and healthcare, is a prerequisite for achieving social justice in Afghanistan.

These statements come amid ongoing restrictions on the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan, with international bodies repeatedly warning about the impacts on health, education, and social participation.
