Pakistan Closes Afghan Refugee Camp in Swabi, Displacing 20,000 Residents

DID Press: Government of Pakistan ordered the closure of Gohti Afghan refugee camp in the Swabi district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, affecting approximately 20,000 residents, according to local media reports.

Authorities reportedly shut down all shops and commercial units inside the camp and informed Afghan residents that the government no longer recognizes the camp’s legal status, effectively ending their permitted stay.

The closure has raised concerns over the humanitarian situation of families residing in the camp, many of whom face uncertainty regarding shelter, basic services, and relocation. Humanitarian organizations have called for urgent measures to ensure the safety and welfare of the displaced population.
