UN Launches Human Trafficking Risk Review in Afghanistan

DID Press: UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the International Organization for Migration (UNODC) have announced the launch of a joint collaboration to conduct a strategic assessment on human trafficking in persons and smuggling migrants in Afghanistan.

The study aims to collect rigorous, evidence-based data from returnees, internally displaced persons, and host communities to provide a clearer picture of trends, risk factors, criminal networks, and existing vulnerabilities.

Officials from both agencies said the findings will play a critical role in shaping future planning, designing effective responses, and developing strategic programmes to prevent and combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling.

They added that the initiative is intended to strengthen coordination between national and international stakeholders and improve protection for at-risk populations, paving the way for more targeted and sustainable interventions in Afghanistan.
