Afghanistan Ships First Dried Fruit Cargo to EU by Rail

DID Press: Local authorities in Herat announced that Afghanistan has exported its first rail-borne shipment of dried fruit to Europe, marking a milestone in the expansion of trade from western Afghanistan.

Officials said 200 tonnes of dried fruit worth more than $1 million were shipped via the Herat–Khaf rail corridor to Europe. The consignment comprises premium products sourced from multiple provinces across Afghanistan and is transiting through Iran and Turkey en route to European markets.

Authorities said the rail route reduces transportation costs and improves the competitiveness of Afghan products in global markets. The governor of Herat added that negotiations with several countries are under way to further expand exports and access new markets.
