DID Press: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has criticized the ongoing military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran, describing the conflict as an “illegal war.”

In an analytical article published Friday in The Economist, Sánchez warned that believing the attacks would produce a positive outcome was “naïve.” He argued that the conflict represents a major threat to the rules-based international order and runs counter to the interests of humanity.
The Spanish leader called for an immediate ceasefire and a return to diplomatic engagement. He also defended his government’s decision to deny Washington access to Spanish military bases for operations related to the conflict, stressing that even allies should avoid “blind obedience on a dangerous path.”
Sánchez concluded by emphasizing that “war is not the answer,” recalling the lessons of the Iraq War and warning that history has already tested such approaches without success.
