DID Press: Bloomberg reports that the United States’ attack on the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Dena, located some 2,000 miles from home waters and seven miles off the coast of Sri Lanka, has shaken Asian trust in Washington.

Mahir Sharma, author of Reboot: Last Chance for India’s Economy and a senior member of the Observer Research Foundation, wrote in an analytical piece that this incident marks the first time since 1945 that a U.S. submarine has sunk an enemy warship.
Sharma emphasizes that the distance from U.S. shores and proximity to Asian waters sends a message to regional countries: America may no longer act as a reliable and responsible presence in the region’s seas. He concludes that this could significantly weaken Washington’s credibility across Asia.
