DID Press: An Iranian sports journalist has criticized FIFA and its president Gianni Infantino over what he described as the awarding of a “FIFA Peace Cup” to former U.S. President Donald Trump during the draw ceremony for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to remarks cited by the outlet, Abdolhamid Ahmadi, head of the Iranian Sports Writers Association, said FIFA granted the symbolic peace award to Trump, whom he described as a “warmongering” U.S. president.
Ahmadi argued that only three months after that event, the region has witnessed what he called aggression and military actions involving the United States and Israel against Iran.
He also referred to allegations of attacks that included missile strikes on a school in the city of Minab, claiming that dozens of children were killed. The claims were presented as part of his criticism and were not independently verified in the statement.
Ahmadi questioned whether Infantino would now have the courage to withdraw the award in light of what he described as war and the killing of innocent civilians. He suggested that the FIFA president should acknowledge possible mistakes and work to repair the damage.
Otherwise, he said, the best course of action to protect the credibility of FIFA and world football would be efforts to remove Infantino from his position.
