Foreign Policy Poll: Vast Majority of Experts Oppose US Military Strike on Iran

DID Press: A new survey by Foreign Policy shows that most international relations experts believe a U.S. military attack on Iran would weaken rather than strengthen Washington’s security.

The poll, conducted between March 3–5 among 949 experts, found that 86% oppose coordinated military action, with 70% strongly opposing it. Only about 10% supported a military strike.

Furthermore, 81% of respondents said a war with Iran would “definitely” or “probably” make the U.S. less secure, reflecting widespread concern about the domestic and international consequences of such a conflict.

The survey also highlighted potential geopolitical ramifications, with some experts warning that a U.S.-Iran war could shift global power balances and increase the likelihood of Chinese military action against Taiwan, as U.S. arsenal depletion and strategic recalculations impact global security dynamics.
